Belgravia Mews House receives planning permission
Designing for Efficiency and Elegance
Patalab Architects has secured planning permission from Westminster City Council for the transformation of a Belgravia Mews House near Eaton Square. The three-storey property, located within a conservation area, will undergo a comprehensive upgrade to enhance both its environmental performance and spatial quality. The approved design introduces significant sustainability improvements, including the installation of a high-efficiency heat pump, full internal wood fibre insulation, and the replacement of existing windows with energy-performant glazing. Biodiversity will be increased through the introduction of new planting and green surfaces. A key aspect of the proposal is the conversion of the existing flat roof into a roof terrace, providing valuable outdoor space in the mews setting where such amenity is rare.
This new green roof will bring nature into the heart of the home, creating visual and physical connections between interior and exterior. Generous glazed roof access, circular skylights, and carefully selected natural materials such as timber, stone and recycled finishes will maximise daylight and contribute to a warm, tactile atmosphere. Internally, the Belgravia Mews House will be reconfigured to improve flow and functionality, with the addition of a spiral wine cellar and refined spatial arrangements that reflect contemporary living standards while respecting the character of the historic context.
Following the tender process and contract negotiation the construction works are scheduled to start at the beginning of next year.
